broken police record. If the officer who inspects the car refers to the chassis as a pan- you've got a VW-savvy officer. Don't offer up (great English) the idea that YOU think the best VIN to go by is the one on the P-A-N. You are not in charge of lingo- they are. When I once doubted the inspector's intel many years ago- I simply climbed in pulled the back seat out and said- "let me make it easier for you."
Any usual DMV inspector knows the chassis on a VW is just that- and the only reliable source for true VIN. If you want a real inspection- the office on State St. is the place to go- Adrian or ... crap, forgot his name- but they're poth Vandals- and classic car buffs. ACS seems to know inspects better than the office- but the ITD vehicle inspection people on State Street is where the buck stops. PM sent on this topic.
